I got stuck on the stairs again last night.
But I let Massah come and get me this time instead of trying to jump down myself.
She said she's going to pile a bunch of chairs in front of the steps so I can't do it again. *sigh*
Note from Massah: If anyone has any ideas on how to teach him to go DOWN stairs, please let me know. He is driving me insane! Every time I look away for an instant, he's running up there! I don't really want to block them off because the upstairs is the only place Fig can go to get away from him and get a break from his maniacal playing habits. He's going to kill himself one of these days.

G'day Lil' Tadpole, When my mum wants to keep me off the stairs she blocks them with a baby gate. When I was little, mum always carried me up and down the stairs. xxx Asta
Has massah tried coaxing you down with something really tasty and giving you loads of praise if you do a step?
I can see why massah doesn't want to use a stair gate, it a toughie!

poor little taddywack. look how your tail is hanging way way down.
Oh Tad that is awful. You are lucky you have Massah there to help you out. We have no ideas on the steps sorry.
You might want to put a leash and collar on him and walk down some easier steps until he gets used to it. Then you can put him on the third step or so of your spiral steps and help him down. After he gets the hang of it, you can keep starting him off on a higher step.

Oscar - he won't go down a step!!! He just jumps! I don't know how to physically show him... the silly thing.
The Fleas - he flies up and down all the other stairs (normal stair cases) without a problem. But as soon as he gets on our stairs he starts taking all these flying leaps! He's crazy!
Mommy says that maybe you should do a combination of leash and treats. When he walks down instead of jumping give him lots of praise and treats. Mommy feels for you, she doesn't want Tad to get hurt by jumping either.
why dont you just ride fig down the stairs?????
Hi Tad, Eva here. The leash and treat plan sounds like a good one. You might also have Massah try putting the treat on the steps just a few steps down to keep you from jumping down. I know about scary things too. I'm scared of some of the smooth surfaces in our house. The treat method has worked pretty good for me! Belly Rubs, Eva
The Leash And Treat strategy sounds good to me too! Take care Little Tadpole. Love, Asta
You need to install a Fig-lift so that she can elevate up. Surely Tad would never fig out how to work one of those.
Oh! Tad. I really don't know how you can relieve your fear of the stairs. My mom says that the advice from Butchy and Snickers sounds good. Maybe your Massah could start from there. Good luck!

Lots of good suggestions for you Tad. Definately use treats & start at maybe the 2nd or 3rd step from the bottom. Put the food on the step so he has to walk down one to get it. Gradually increase number of steps. We've gotta tell ya Tad...you make us very nervous! We don't want you to get hurt.
i cant believe my idea disappeared...
Hey Tads,
Maybe your Mom can put treats on each step and you slowly venture down? I'm fine about stairs just not too sure if I dare to navigate those spiral ones like what you have at home.
Your stairs are scary because they have no backs.

G'day Lil' Tadpole, Hope you're OK, xxx Asta
I don't have to worry about stairs because I have the run of the house. I guess your mom could block the stairs once Fig gets through and then unblock them when she wants to come down...although not fair to you at all little one.
Good luck with that little scenario:)
BIG hugs from Billy Boo:)
Poor Taddy...please be careful...I don't want you to hurt yourself!!! My mom agrees with everyone else...leash and treats. That's how I learned how to walk down the stairs...and it took a long while. My stairs weren't as scarey as yours tho'. Maybe you guys should move and get new steps?
Good luck...lots of licks, Ruby
PS- belated happy mother's day to your girl.
Pooooor Tad! My mom used to block things with a baby gate but then evil sister Fig couldn't get up and down them!
Poor Tad! I wish I had some suggestions for you but everyone else has some good ideas with the treats and whatnot. Miss Sunshade is afraid of going down the stairs too.
wally.
